The UK Government’s Intellectual Property Office, the Department for International Trade and the British Embassy in Beijing have published their September 2020 China IP Newsletter with the following highlights on IP:

  • The Beijing International Property Exchange was launched at September 2020’s China International Fair for Trade in Services . It will facilitate IP registration, pricing, financing and trading.
  • According to China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, China registered 136,434 technology transactions worth RMB 771BN (£88BN) in the first half of 2020, 47% of which were IP transactions.
  • The China National Intellectual Property Administration granted its first patent for a COVID-19 vaccine on 11 August 2020, in a process which took just five months.
  • The UK’s Premier League’s signed a broadcast 372-match deal on 17 September with Tencent Sports which makes all Premier League matches available live in China through WeChat, QQ, Tencent Video, Penguin Live, Tencent News, Tencent Sports App and Kan Dian, more than half of them for free.
